When I was 13 my grandad passed away, we are not to sure how long he had Alzheimer's for but we think roughly 5 years. It was so hard seeing him, as one day he knew who we all was and the next he didn't have a clue. Later on in his life he began to do things that weren't his usual self. He would get things out and not put them away and my grandad was a very clean man. He would say "oh thank you for my stay"(thinking his house was a hotel), "I'm going home now to see my mum". This was the most upsetting as he didn't even realise who anyone was. When grandad started to get really forgetful, we decided that we needed to get professional care for him. While he was there, he decided he wouldn't take his medication and he wouldn't put his dentures in. It was hard for the whole family, especially for my Nan who looked after him all day, every day. Me, my dad, my auntie and uncle used to visit and give help and support to him and my Nan. I am walking in memory of you Grandad sleep tight and we will meet again one sunny day.
