Story
Hi, we are a group of nurses and Drs who all work at Walsall Manor Hospital and we are trying to raise 10K for vital equipment to help improve the care given to those babies who have suffered a brain injury due to a lack of oxygen during a difficult delivery.
Nearly 3 in every 1000 babies will be born at risk of long term brain injury due to oxygen starvation during delivery. It is very difficult to predict which of these babies are likely to have long term problems. As a neonatal clinical team, this makes it difficult to counsel their parents appropriately.
A cerebral function Monitor (CFM) is used to measure electrical activity in the brain. It is therefore a sensitive tool for predicting the severity of hypoxic ischemic encephalopathy (HIE)/ level of injury to the brain. If applied in the first 6-12 hours after birth it can help to predict long term neurodevelopmental outcomes. It can also help to determine if babies abnormal movements are due to seizures, therefore ensuring the correct treatment is given.
It cost £10k for a CFM. The staff at Walsall Manor Hospital are running 10k to help raise the much needed funds to help improve the quality of care that we can offer to our babies and their families. it would be great if you could support us by donating towards this great cause. It would massively help us and the patients that we serve.
Please share this with your friends and family and help us reach our target.
Many thanks.

7 years agoWell the Birmingham 10k is only 4 days away and it's almost time to put all the training into action. Thank you so much to everyone who has supported our cause so far, we are so grateful for your kind donations. We are almost at the £2000 mark which is incredibly so thank you all. There is still time if anyone else would like to support our neonatal unit, every penny really does count so please keep your donations coming in. I will be posting pictures of the team on Sunday... the post race pics might not be so pretty 😜
