Weʼve raised £1,010 to provide a Christmas Dinner and a show for members of the Liverpool community that are homeless, vulnerable and lonely this Christmas.

Funded on Saturday, 16th December 2017

    Story

Christmas is coming! Thoughts about presents and getting ready for the big day. That day will come and go and we will be warm, in our snug Christmas jumpers (or onesies!) – But what about others less fortunate than us?.

Age UK states that over 1 million older people are dreading Christmas, as that is the time of year that they feel the most lonely. Loneliness at Christmas isn’t only an issue for older people; in a world where social events are becoming fewer and community spirit isn’t as strong as it once was, adults of all ages will find themselves spending Christmas alone or away from their families this year.

In this city we have seen levels of homelessness go up in the last few years, while government initiatives are creating a solution to the problem in part, the underworld of homelessness is something that many of us will never be fully aware of. According to Homeless Link, 72% of homeless are challenged by mental illnesses and over 50% have long term physical health issues.

It’s estimated that 100,000 children will wake up homeless this Christmas in the UK (statistics from the National charity Shelter).

Liverpool will hopefully always be a city that helps those less fortunate, a city that welcomes others with open arms

Any funds raised will help provide some festive cheer, such as a traditional Christmas dinner, a Christmas play and if we can presents and clothing.

Because we’re not born equal. Because life isn’t fair. Because we should be the voice of those who suffer in silence, the shield for the defenseless. We should care about other people, because at one point in life WE might be “the other people”.
