In 2017 Don and Lorna McLean left Bearsden to head for a new adventure serving some of the poorest communities in Cape Town, South Africa. They are involved in various projects with their respective charities as they seek to empower and equip local communities and improve living conditions and quality of life within them.
When the McLeans left for South Africa I wondered if there might be an opportunity to partner with them at some point by bringing a group from Bearsden out on a short term basis to serve alongside them. That is our plan for July 2018! Lorna works with a charity called New Day United and part of the work they are planning for this summer is to run a children's holiday club for a week in the mornings and homework club for teenagers in the afternoons.
So our team of 9 young adults, one not-so-young adult (me) and a baby are heading out to Cape Town to help them with these projects. We will work with the Khanyisa church for a week and also will have the chance to visit another missionary family from Bearsden who are serving in a different township in Cape Town (and have a few days off to see around the city).
In order to do this we need to raise around £1500 per person. So here is where you can donate to my fundraising efforts. I'm planning a bit of a challenge for myself as part of the fundraising (more details coming soon!) and we'll be putting on a couple of group fundraising events as well. If I can raise more than the £1500 I need then any extra will be put towards the rest of the group and once our costs are covered it would be amazing if there was an excess that we could donate to the projects Don and Lorna are serving in.
