On 27th June 2017 my dad, John, suffered an acute ischaemic stroke, which affected his right hand side, it also caused facial palsy & aphasia. He began having weekly sessions of therapy with a team of physiotherapists, occupational therapists & speech language therapists. He was doing well with his recovery until he suffered a second stroke on the 8th september 2017, which caused my dad to lose his ability to walk unaided, he becomes dizzy & loses his balance easily, which can be caused just by looking a certain way too quickly. Because of this my dad was provided with a wheelchair, however, due to my mum having severe arthritis in her knees, and my dad not being the smallest, slimmest (sorry dad!) of men, they struggle to get out very often & cant go very far as my mum cannot push him in the wheelchair. My dad has been walking with the help of my mum, & whilst using a walking aid or the wheelchair, but this tires him out quickly, which then causes him to spend the following 2 or so days in bed recovering. Becoming over tired also affects dad in that his aphasia, facial palsy & weakness in his right side worsen, mimicking another stroke. Therefore I have decided to do a crowdfunding page for my parents, to try to raise funds towards an electric wheelchair, to help get my mum & dad out of their house, in which they feel they are prisoners in, since dad had his very first stroke.
