Weʼve raised £30,586 to continue to support the rehabilitation of John Macphail at home with his family.

Funded on Wednesday, 13th September 2023

    Story

John Macphail sadly sustained a life changing injury that will necessitate significant adaptions to his family home. These will enable his long-awaited return from hospital where he has been fighting hard since December 2021.

John has fought hard and is currently staying at Walkergate Park hospital receiving neurological rehabilitation. The main aim in the next few weeks/months is to get John back home to his family who miss him terribly.

His home is currently been adapted to suit his needs, however the alterations and the cost of equipping his home for him are extremely expensive.

Please donate what you can to support John and his family.

    Let’s get Monty home!

After nearly 6 months at Walkergate Park hospital, John has made significant improvements. With all your generous donations made so far we have progressed well with the adaptions to his home, his wife, Diane can't wait to have him home. On 15th March 2023, there is a football match at The Stadium of Light, where Sunderland FC will take on Sheffield United. John played for both these teams and he loved playing for them both, at different times in his career. We hope this game will help with fundraising for his continued rehabilitation.

A huge thank you to everyone who has donated to Macphail's Miles. In just 31 days we hit our new target of £20,000. To say we are blown away by everyone’s generosity is an understatement. To read all your wonderful comment on our dad has given us all great comfort and we have enjoyed reading them to dad also. Our fundraising will continue and now that we have our planning permission the build to get Dad home has started.. this is all down to you. Thank you from the bottom of our hearts ❤️ Rebecca xx

All the best John. I used to play against you in the u16 league and followed your career closely. The staff at Walkergate are great, you are in good hands
