My wife, Claire, sadly suffers from a variety of medical conditions (there simply isn't enough space to list them all here) which have got a lot worse in recent years, to the point where she now requires 24-oxygen support, about 50 medications per day, a bipap ventilator to breathe at night, a wheelchair to go outside, a specialist adjustable chair to sit even close to comfortably and more. Most of this equipment has been provided by the NHS, but there is so much more we need to make life better.

A fully profiling adjustable bed will allow Claire to sleep comfortably by relieving pressure on her damaged hips and elevate her legs to reduce accumulation of fluid while keeping her shoulders and head raised to aid her breathing - currently we're using 10 pillows to try to achieve this, which are constantly moving around and are far from ideal. These adjustable beds are several thousand pounds to buy and the NHS will not provide one.

We have the cheapest folding wheelchair available, but it is not intended for long term use and is a struggle to use. A powered, tilt-in-space chair will allow her more independence and comfort. An unpowered tilt-in-space chair is about £2500 - powered ones can be more than twice that.

Such a chair will require us getting a Wheelchair Adapted Vehicle - while the Motability Scheme will cover the bulk of the costs, we'll still need money for the upfront payment. Currently the absolute cheapest is almost £700.

Any extra money will be used to acquire other equipment as needed, pay towards getting an Assistance Dog, or to fund complimentary therapies such as hydrotherapy, reflexology and massage.
