    Story

Thank you for taking the time to read my story.

A few years ago my aunt spent several months volunteering in a remote local community in Tanzania and her stories and photos have inspired me ever since to want to do something similar.

My school has recently provided me with an amazing opportunity to do just that by arranging a visit to Nakuru, Kenya, to spend a couple of weeks teaching and helping in a local school.  I had to apply for one of only 11 places, suggesting lesson plans and how I would raise awareness for the Project.

The trip is in aid of supporting the Nakuru children’s project which one of my teachers helped to set up.

I am funding the cost of the trip myself by doing a daily paper round before school, however I would like to raise some additional funds for The Nakuru Children’s Project. This project helps provide the poorest children in two local primary schools with a free meal each school day – for some this is the only meal they get -  as well as helping children receive a secondary school education as this is not free!

Many children in Kenya have to walk great distances to and from school every day, rising early to make the long journey often after carrying out their daily chores. I have therefore decided in order to raise some additional funds for the project, I will walk the 11 miles I usually travel to my school by bus. This should take me 3.5 to 4 hours to do, so I will be having a very early morning!

If you would like to sponsor me all funds will go directly to the Nakuru Children’s Project (http://www.nakuruchildrensproject.org.uk/)
