Hello,

My name is Joshua Steele, I am running 10 Miles in the great south run on 22nd of October 2017.

The charity I am running for is Hampshire Paediatric Diabetes group, a charity that is close to mine and my family’s heart.

My niece Scarlette was just 7 years old when she started to feel poorly, After Several doctors’ appointments and going back and forth, my niece was finally sent to Basingstoke hospital, Within 10 Minutes of being admitted Scarlette had a finger prick test which showed she has type 1 diabetes and was in Diabetic Ketoacidosis which would have been fatal if left longer, Scarlett was sent straight to the high dependency unit where they spend 5 days trying to stabilise her.

The doctor's at Basingstoke Hospital where so supportive to my family and Scarlett after the diagnosis, Giving Scarlette the support and confidence she needed to inject herself with insulin along with Teaching my sister and brother-law. We really felt they went the extra mile and nothing was too much trouble.

The Hospital told us about this charity called Hampshire Paediatric Diabetes Group, This charity has really helped scarlet through a really difficult time at such a young age. The charity set up a get together at our local bowling alley where scarlette has made some great friends with other young children just like her. Most recently all the children went away without parents to stay at Fairthorne Manor.

This amazing charity has given Scarlette the help and support she deserves to feel like normal little girl again. With the money I raise for the charity it will help other children and families through some of the darkest times that no young child or family should go through
