WHAT IS THIS EXPEDITION ALL ABOUT?
In Summer 2018, Ravens Wood School will be running their third Borneo Humanitarian Aid Expedition. Over the past three years RWS has undertaken an expedition to the Sabah region of Borneo, where students have carried out a project planned to improve the quality of life for the villagers of the region.
RWS Borneo Expedition 2013, installing and rebuilding water towers & kitchen facilities
In July 2018, we are returning to the village of ‘SK Laksian’, where we will construct a fresh water supply system for the village. The number of pumps and tanks that we can install will depend on funding secured. Each pump costs £1,200.
RWS Borneo Expedition 2013, mixing concrete to build new foundations
We will spend a week in the village developing and implementing our project, and interacting with the villagers and pupils of the local primary school. We will then head off to an uninhabited island just off the North coast of Borneo, where we will learn from survival professionals from around the world, on how to ‘survive and thrive’ in a rainforest environment.
RWS Borneo Expedition 2013, rafting on the rapids through the rainforest of Borneo
This is a great opportunity for students to grow in independence and confidence outside their comfort zones. During the last week we will have the opportunity to undertake adventurous activities in the area, including: wild safaris, rafting, and see orangutans in their natural environment.
WHERE DOES THE MONEY GO?
I have already raised over £2,000 for the expedition. These additional monies will assist in funding the £4,500 total cost of the trip and my contribution to the group fund for the project tools and materials, to build the water supply system for the village.
