    Story

The money is being raised to transport goods in a large Shipping Container from Ireland to Adraa Village, near Arua, Northern Uganda.

The main event is a official Cycle around the Cotswolds with three differing lengths for all abilities, 33, 66 & 100miles. We are asking for Participants to try and raise £200 each. This will cover race entry, and transport for your bike from London aswell as the donation.

Much of Northern Uganda is recovering from the civil war inflicted on the region since 1985. Combined with economic and political isolation this has resulted in high levels of rural poverty. Land is held under customary ownership and farms are fragmented with an emphasis on growing food rather than seeing the farm as a business and a source of a sustainable livelihood.

The Franciscan Brothers have set up a Agricultural Education Centre in 2012 with a belief that sustainable agriculture is the most appropriate development strategy in response to the realities facing rural communities in Northern Uganda.

As a concept, sustainable agriculture is a process, based on four pillars - economic, environmental, socio/cultural and political institutional. This concept, properly understood and implemented, will lead to the achievement of sustainable livelihoods of the farmers concerned and lay the foundation for sustainable rural development. Sustainable agriculture is at the core of the Franciscan Brothers’ ministries in West Nile.

A recent donation of Farm Machinery and Catering Equipment has been made to the cause. However the Franciscan Brothers are currently trying to raise the sufficient funds to transport a container from Ireland to Uganda. Every single item with be utilised to its full potential including the Freight Container, which will be transformed into a classroom.
