Walking the Camino de Santiago

STORY

On 4th September I’m taking a journey to celebrate lost lives and help nurture new ones. I’ll be walking the Camino de Santiago from Tui to Santiago in Portugal & Spain (120 km) in memory of cherished friends Henar Morell (Batala Bristol samba reggae band) and Kate Cole (Gurt Lush Choir). We had talked about doing this walk together. Another friend David Bain recently walked the Camino de Santiago before he too was suddenly taken by cancer

Henar walked many miles to raise funds to set up a clinic for the Rukeri Batwa in Kisoro.

Kate, through running the bar at Gurt Lush concerts and other activities worked tirelessly to support fundraising for the school and feeding programmes in Uganda and was a much-loved ‘Lusher’.

David said , "there is something wonderful about walking a path which people have been walking for a thousand years."

I am also walking to celebrate my new knee and to thank our amazing NHS!

Children of Kigezi, Uganda, health, education & feeding programme. The Batwa became destitute when they were evicted from their forest homelands for the government to set up National Parks. When I met the Rukeri Batwa & heard their story I raised funds to build a school. Funds are needed to continue to maintain the school & clinic in Kisoro. The children of Mwisi school in Kabale couldn’t learn as they were too hungry so I set up a programme to provide a daily mug of porridge. For many this is their only food so funds raised ensure this programme continues.
