My name is Julie Ferrett, and I live, breathe, eat and sleep Hockey. I have done all my life. I coach, I umpire, I play in goal, I travel the world playing/coaching and supporting Hockey and work with people from all backgrounds and ages.

I developed knee problems from this life on the pitch and had to have surgery on my knee. Unfortunately it didn't go to plan, and then COVID hit, meaning appointments were delayed and repeated surgery was delayed, and then when it was done, didn't give me the result I needed. I am now dependent on walking aids to get around my house. I haven't been upstairs in over 2 years, sleeping in a hospital bed in my kitchen/ living room. There's no chance of me getting the surgery to attempt to put my knee back together until the end of 2021 at the earliest and the surgeon is very pessimistic about me getting back to normal function any time soon.

Worst of all, its taken away my life, my Hockey coaching and umpiring. I've tried doing it with the basic aids and a wheelchair that I have to push around myself, but the Hockey authorities have decided that I have to have an electric wheelchair, which has tyres suitable for astropitches. This is expenseive and way beyond my capacity to buy for myself. I would like to try and raise money for this, with anything extra I raise going towards cancer research and maybe some money towards a stairlift so I can sleep in my own bed again!
