    Story

Thanks for visiting my JustGiving page.

My son William has Becker Muscular Dystrophy.

Muscular Dystrophy is a relentless muscle wasting condition that progressively robs the sufferer of their mobility. As a mother all you want to do is protect your child and give them the best life possible. We are a close family and our main aim is to provide William with all the tools he needs to be an independent young man. We moved to a bungalow when William was younger, which we have adapted to meet his needs. This has been an ongoing process as William's needs change and recently we have made alterations to the access so that William can use a wheelchair to come and go independently.

Being disabled is costly. We would love to buy William a powered wheelchair as he is not strong enough to use his manual wheelchair alone. He is 17-years old now and at 6th Form, and like any teenager wants to socialise with his friends. He would like to travel to college on his own and not have to rely on Mum and dad! At the moment this is difficult and having a powered wheelchair would mean that William could get around independently and safely.

Over the years we have helped fund-raise for Muscular Dystrophy UK to help towards research into finding a cure or treatment for this cruel condition. We have had collections, manned stalls and done a supermarket bag pack. My husband, Stewart has completed the London Marathon 4 times and the Great North Run and independently ran 1000 miles in 2014, raising £1000's for MDUK. Some of our wonderful friends have helped too, one abseiling down a tower block and another amazing friend shaved her head raising over £4,000 for the charity. Other friends have helped by holding their own collections too.

The wheelchair William needs costs over £8,000! So far we have managed to raise £5,000 ourselves, but we need your help to raise the remaining £3,000.

We are being helped in our endeavour by another dear friend's father, Stephen Chadwick, who has decided to complete a Skydive at the tender age of 81! This incredibly brave feat is to help raise funds for William's wheelchair, but also in memory of his brother who was affected by muscular dystrophy too.

The skydive will take place on the 29th September this year.

10% of all money raised will go to Muscular Dystrophy UK

Thank you for reading our story.

A huge well done to Stephen who finally (after waiting for the right weather conditions) successfully completed the skydive yesterday! LEGEND!
