Story
On the 4th October 2018 (after only a week at university) Justine, aged 19, was rushed to Nottingham Hospital in a life threatening condition after contracting bacterial meningitis (meningococcal septicaemia).
Justine was immediately placed in an induced coma and spent the next 5 weeks in intensive care.
Fast forward to Friday 28th December 2018 and Justine has made remarkable progress!
• She was brought out of the coma and is able to breathe independently
• She is now able to speak and communicate again
• Her kidney function is slowly returning to normal
• She is gaining more muscle control in her hands and has move movement in them
Today marks an incredible step as Justine will be returning home to her family on a temporary trial.
Going forward, the main concern is Justine’s feet and legs. The aggressive antibiotics given to save her vital organs resulted in a lack of blood flow to her feet and legs. The surgeons have advised that amputation of both her feet and lower limbs is the only way forward. Justine and her family continue to fight to ensure her legs heal. The family have sought specialised help from doctors overseas that are pioneering advanced medication which promotes the regeneration of tissue. They have seen great progress with more blood flow pumping towards her legs and feet but more needs to be done to prevent amputation.
The treatment is extremely expensive and we look to raise this amount to give Justine the best possible chance to keep her feet. Anything you are able to give would be much appreciated but we understand this may not be possible for everyone so the family would also greatly appreciate your prayers during this time.
The Nwachukwu family are forever grateful for all the prayers, calls and donations you have all made. The fast healing of this terrible disease is unheard of and that is because of you, we have been able to give Justine the best support possible.
Thank you for taking the time to visit and read this page.
We continue to send love and prayers to Justine and her family.

5 years agoThank you for all your support, donations & prayers - we are forever grateful. With your help, we have been able to purchase some treatment to aid Justine’s healing. Progress from Late December; · Justine’s feet are less tough, have more sensations & are warmer · Justine’s skin (face, arms & parts of legs) is returning to normal colour This suggests more oxygenated blood flow & tissue restoration. With expertise from doctors overseas, we want to continue treatment & add stem cell therapy to aid her healing.

6 years agoUpdate on Justine: Justine has been making steady progress! Last week her breathing support was removed & she begun breathing independently. Her sedation was lowered which meant she was able to communicate & be more alert. Since then Justine has been talking & just yesterday she was able to eat for the first time! Lots of tests still to be contd. to assess impact of the meningitis & next steps in her recovery. But we wanted to share with you Justine's incredible progress & strength! THANK YOU all for your continued prayers & donations!
