    Story

The staff at The Joseph Whitaker School are raising money to support the 6th Form charity which is the Alzheimer's Society & Outdoor Education Programme. The Outdoor programme is self funding and we need to raise money to help support our students by providing staff training, purchasing and replacing old kit so we are able to offer opportunities to our students.

    The Challenge

The challenge is to complete the National 3 Peak challenge on 15th / 16th June 2019 within a 24 hour period. A group of 12 staff have been training hard over the past 6 months to achieve the challenge. The team will start at Ben Nevis at approximately 23.30, the second ascent will be Scarfell Pike and the final ascent will be Mt Snowdon.

The team will be led by Outdoor Education Manager Chris Phillips & experienced Mountain Leaders Michael Ayres & Zak Needham.

The team began the ascent of Snowdonia in calm weather but this changes very quickly to zero viability. This slowed the team as the terrain was tricky and they completed the challenge in 24 hours 30 minutes. A massive well done to the team and drivers.

The team have achieved a great time of 3 hours 32 on Sca Fell. The conditions on arrival were poor and heavy rain, butbthe sun came through and we ended up with glorious sunshine! We are on our way to Wales, it's going to be tight!
