Story
My team and I will be taking part in the crazy 2,700 Km journey in a 3-wheeled glorified lawnmower from Jaisalmer in North India down to Kochi in South India! We will be entirely responsible for all aspects of the trip including the route planning, listening out for the horns and even changing the wheels (I'm not entirely sure how that works...just yet)
As this is my first foray into fundraising through a platform I am torn between some charities I feel are close to my heart. For this reason I have decided to crowdfund, rather than fund raise, so that I can distribute the money.
I will be supporting 3 main causes:
1. White Rhino Conservation (www.olpejetaconservancy.org) - It is no secret that the white rhino is dangerously close to extinction. The Ol Pejeta Conservancy is a 90,000-acre not-for-profit wildlife conservancy in Central Kenya's Laikipia County. It is situated on the equator west of Nanyuki, between the foothills of the Aberdares and Mount Kenya. Please look through their website at some of the amazing things they are doing especially for the conservation of the endangered rhinos.
2. Helping the street children in Nakuru (www.scannkenya.com/) - SCANN, which stands for Street Children’s Assistance Network of Nakuru, is a charitable organization primarily founded with one major objective; to rehabilitate the needy, destitute Street Children in our society. My home town, like every other major town in Kenya, is home to countless street children. SCANN provides Food, Shelter, Clothing, Healthcare and most importantly Education to 151 former street children aged between 5 and 25 years.
At present, SCANN has 17 Children in various Universities and 24 boys in Colleges of Higher Education, while 50 Boys are in Secondary Schools, 45 boys are pursuing primary education and the remaining mostly very young Children attend classes at SCANN Centre. Supporting this cause will also give me the opportunity to support those less privileged in my home town.
3. MK Hospital - As most of my friends will know, MK Hospital doctors and all the staff that looked after my wife were instrumental in ensuring she is still with us today. It was their diligence, hard work and effort that helped diagnose and treat her. Again, giving something back to this worthy establishment is something I feel will benefit others in a similar position to what we were all those years back.
All donations, large or small will be extremely welcome. Although I would ideally like to try and split the donations evenly, please mention which cause out of the three you may feel you want to sponsor and I will make sure this happens.
Finally, please say a short prayer for me!
Many thanks
Kamal
