Hi I'm Karla Ryan and I am a 19 year old student studying Physical Education at Leeds Beckett University.

This summer, I am volunteering in South Africa with the Durban Municipality Sports Development unit to help and assist them in their sports coaching work with young people out in the townships that surround Durban.

This is a great opportunity for, not only myself, but also the young people of South Africa who have little, or in some cases no sport equipment or facilities for them to participate in sport. I want to provide sporting opportunities and experiences to people for them to understand the benefits, importance and enjoyment that sport and physical activity can bring to a persons life.

To raise money for this unit, I will be participating in several events including an abseil event, charity colour run and more. The money raised will go towards the unit for specialised sports equipment and provision as well as helping to fund this opportunity for me to make a difference in young peoples lives.
