Weʼve raised £2,778 to raise funds for Weldmar Hospicecare by running the Virgin London Marathon, hopefully now in October 2021.

Funded on Sunday, 20th November 2022

    Story

In 2005, my mother in-law, Teresa; my husband’s beloved mum, lost her brave battle with Emphysema. In her final months, she was cared for at the Day Centre. In her final days she was cared for at the Hospice. The care shown was not only for Teresa, but the family too. The care did not stop after Teresa’s passing. The support was second to none. Staff truly were angels in uniforms.

Weldmar Hospicecare in Dorchester, Dorset is a charity that provides end of life care for people living in the county who need specialist support. All the care is free and reliant on public donations. The NHS contribute 25% of the running costs, leaving Weldmar needing to raise £10,240 per day to fund their free of charge services. This is done through a chain of twenty charity shops, six outlets and fundraising events.

I am not your average looking athlete but I am a determined individual. I like a challenge and with a few half marathons under my belt, have always looked for something to test me harder. In 2018, I experienced the lowest period of my life. Whilst my mental ill-health took over, I found I could no longer run. Time has passed and I feel stronger. The trainers have been dusted off and to ensure the momentum continues a new challenge has been sought.

I am enormously proud, honoured and excited that Weldmar have offered me one of their five golden bond places in the Virgin London Marathon. One day, when it is safe to do so (hopefully 3 October 2021) I will repay them, not only, for the care and support shown to Teresa and her family in 2005, but giving me the focus and drive to help heal myself.

Whilst I may have hit my fundraising target, now, more than ever, Weldmar Hospicecare need donations to enable them to continue delivering the invaluable service they do. Thank you.

I’m knocking on the door to 40 but with the drive to complete my greatest challenge to date. Previous fun has included the 50 something mile London to Brighton cycle ride; a skydive from 40,000 feet; and a few half marathons.
