On 21 September 2017, I will be taking part in a charity climb to Everest Basecamp, raising money for a worthy cause - Cancer Research UK.

Cancer Research UK is a charity particularly close to my heart. Like many others, I have experienced first-hand the pain & anguish caused seeing loved ones I care about suffer at the merciless hands of this wretched disease. Very recently, a close family friend, who I love so dearly lost his brave battle against cancer & sadly follows in the footsteps of so many before him – my nana & grandpa included.

I wish I had a magic wand to make things better & bring them back … sadly I don’t.
I wish I could find a cure, so no one else has to ever again suffer at the
hands of this monstrous disease … unfortunately I’m terrible at science
& maths so developing a cure’s highly unlikely.

But what I can do is help raise money to support people who are far better at science & maths than me; people who work for an organisation, which is already carrying out vital research in the fight against cancer. That’s why I’m raising money for Cancer Research UK.

The challenge I’m taking part in sees me trek up the Nepalese side of the Himalayas –from Kathmandu, the nation’s capital, to Everest base camp – situated at 5,364 metres above sea level.

This cause means so much to me that I have already put my money where my mouth is... I have agreed to raise £3,500 for Cancer Research UK to take part in this trek, which I have already paid to the charity in full, predominately from my own pocket. Hopefully you can see that this trip & why I’m taking part means a lot to me.
