Next summer I will be volunteering with Think Pacific for 4 weeks, providing both academic and physical education to Fijian children living in impoverished rural communities through a youth and sports development project.

Think Pacific is a small charity, founded a decade ago, which provides the funding and support to enable volunteer teams to achieve specific development goals in the poorest areas of Fiji.
The charity aims to empower local Fijian people and provide long term solutions to development issues through social, economic and environmental benefit.
Particular focus is placed on Fiji's youth, increasing opportunities for future generations by increasing access to improved infrastructure, education, training and support.

As a volunteer I would love to empower young Fijian children from a grass roots perspective, helping them to develop the skills they need to live a more fulfilled life. While Fiji is a beautiful part of the world to visit, I am excited to be doing so not as a tourist, but as a volunteer with the opportunity of making a difference to the lives of people who need it the most, while also educating myself about the culture and way of life of Fijian people.

The foundation supports over 50,000 children living in hardship each year, using education as a tool to stop the long-term cycle of poverty. The money which I manage to raise will go towards the purchase of educational resources and sports equipment for rural schools, providing teacher training, improving school facilities, providing health advocacy and providing early years’ education; things which we take for granted, but things which will transform the everyday lives of people living in rural Fiji.

From now until departure on June 11th I will be fundraising for the cause, and will be updating my profile with news of any fundraising events I undertake. Any donations will be huuuugely appreciated,
