    Story

In June Abi will be participating in a life changing experience by spending a month volunteering and helping vulnerable people in Uganda.

Uganda, a country located in Africa, is well known for its turbulent past struggles with outbreaks of both war and disease. Although now stable, there are still many Ugandan citizens living in poverty with unaffordable healthcare and no access to the facilities that many of us take for granted.

Abi will be travelling around Uganda for a month, experiencing African culture and participating in building and decorating projects in and around Richard Lander’s sister schools in Kamuzinda and Bukomansimi. They will help to improve the learning conditions of Ugandan students and will also have the opportunity to organise and teach their own lessons, something they are already preparing at school.

Throughout the year Lander4Uganda students have been working extremely hard alongside their studies, in order to help fundraise as much as possible for the development projects needed in Uganda. They have achieved an admirable total of approximately £20,000 so far which will help them to make a big difference in June.

Taking part in a once in a lifetime trip such as this obviously comes at a cost. The students have therefore been encouraged to organise their own personal fundraising in order to help towards their own costs, which also include the various vaccinations and anti-malaria medication required for the trip. To this end, we are in the process of organising a fundraising coffee morning where Abs will showcase her amazing cakes as well as an online craft sale of items made by both Abi and myself (Shabby Chic Dreams) with all proceeds going towards her Uganda fundraising. Any additional donations you feel able to make via this Just Giving page will of course be much appreciated and help support Abi in achieving her goal of making a difference in Uganda.
