Story

Last July, my Granddad lost a long and painful battle with leukaemia. It was so hard for all of us to see the sturdy, endlessly energetic, glint-in-his-eyes smiling Granddad, dad and husband quickly lose his strength and ability to carry out life as passionately as he always had done. He never gave up his positive outlook or the willing to carry on, and much of this can be credited to the doctors, nurses and staff of Ward C7 at Southampton General Hospital (Wessex Blood and Marrow Transplant Unit). Without them, the battle would've been so much harder for him, and I know my mum, Auntie, and Grannie couldn't have gone through the entire painful process without their help, too.

I know my Granddad wasn't the only one to benefit immensely from their services. The money donated to them goes toward making the lonely, physically and mentally agonising hospitalisation process as pleasant as it can be. The ward let their donors know exactly what their money is spent on. If my Granddad's experience was anything to go by, what they do is invaluable and absolutely vital for giving the patients a better quality of life, especially during some of their last days.

I'm running a half marathon across the North York Moors on July 22nd. It's part of the Castle Run Series, it'll be trail running involving a lot of gruelling climbs around Castle Howard. (https://www.castletriathlonseries.co.uk/wp-content/uploads/2018/02/Half-marathon-descriptions-1.pdf)

The following week, during the anniversary of Granddad's passing, I will be doing the C2C bike ride, transiting from the North West to the North East across the hilly northern counties. I am going to complete the 220km route from Whitehaven to Newcastle over three days.

Please provide any support that you feel you can, it will be so hugely appreciated by the Ward and my family.
