There are 7 of us taking part in Manchester Half marathon on 16.10.2016 - Tom McGuirk, Michael Young, Tom Baty, Alex Clyne, Sean Davies, Michael Prior and me!

Our main objective is to raise as much money as we can to help with the potential cost of specialist cancer treatment for my friends dad, Terry. It is unclear at this stage whether or not full funding will be provided by the NHS towards the treatment Terry needs to save his life.

Terry is a 54 year old husband, dad and granddad who was diagnosed with a rare cancer in May 2016. This will be Terry’s second battle with cancer. His first was 30 years ago when he was treated with Chemotherapy and Radio Therapy at the Christie in Manchester.

This time things are more complicated. The cancer Terry has been diagnosed with is so rare this has not been fully named. Terry has a large secondary tumour in his abdomen that is wrapped around his aorta. The primary cancer is not yet known.

The Tumour will not respond to Chemotherapy and is too large for Radiotherapy and may be incurable. The only option is an operation which is very dangerous due to the tumour being wrapped around the aorta. This means a large part of the aorta will need to be replaced.

Terry is currently undergoing lots of tests at The Christie to see if he is suitable for surgery, but the cancer is so rare things are taking a long time as there are only 1 or 2 doctors who could possibly help in the UK. If Terry is not suitable for surgery the Christie will search internationally to find the help needed.

Terry is having to pay for private consultations and possibly will have to pay for more tests and treatment going forward. This will cost thousands of pounds and this is why we are fundraising for him.

Any funds raised that aren’t required for Terry’s treatment will be donated to other people facing a similar situation.

Please help us give Terry the best chance of beating this rare cancer. His family don’t want to lose him.
