Through my friend Lisa I have been made aware of the incredible knowledge and care available to those in need at Hammersmith hospital and also how much of that is because of incredible work by many, over many years to raise funds for research and facilities.

So, I made the decision to do something to raise money. My aim is to raise £5000 for The Blood Fund and when I reach the target I will shave my head.

The Blood Fund raises money to support the fantastic work of the Department of Haematology at Hammersmith Hospital. The department does incredible work supporting patients with a wide range of blood disorders and with the help of The Blood Fund they can do more. Money raised for The Blood Fund will go towards supporting doctors and scientists of the future and to fund research to make sure we're constantly looking for ways to improve treatments. It will also support patient care and experience to make sure we're providing the best experience for our patients and our families.

Months ago, during treatment, when Lisa talked about losing her hair I remember saying and wishing that I could give mine, that I didn't care that much about it and would happily give it to her. Obviously that wasn't possible and she had no choice but to lose her hair, which she did with dignity and style. As I sat with her last week, her hair now growing back but very short was still a hot topic. It made me think, would I really give it up that easily? It's not just for a moment, but it takes time to grow back and will look very different for a while. The answer was that it wouldn't be easy, but if I could do it to raise money and awareness for such a good cause it would be worthwhile. Please help me make it worthwhile. Katy
