I've followed Takis Shelter for the past 2 years, and seen the effort and love he has put into building and improving his shelter in Crete. Takis Shelter rescues dogs and cats abandoned and often abused on the streets of Crete, a popular area for " dumping" is the town's rubbish tip. Takis takes them in, cares for them, see's they have necessary surgery and over the past few years has built a shelter with now over 180 dogs and cats living together. As well as rescuing and caring for them, Takis also works to re-home, and always welcomes visitors. I think the work Takis does for these animals is amazing, and I really want to help and show my support by raising as much funds as I can!
Deciding what to do to raise funds took a bit of thinking, but I wanted to take on a physical challenge! For those of you that know me, know that I'm not a runner! I trained for the military when I was 19 and during basic training suffered from 3 stress fractures in my pelvis, I then tried again when I was 23 but decided a military life wasn't for me. For that reason, I feel like I need to do something physically demanding, and I can't think of a better challenge to help raise funds for Takis Shelter.
The Southampton 5K Fun Run is my first race I will be taking part in for Takis Shelter, I will then be training to enter the Southampton Half Marathon in April 2018 where I will also be running for Takis Shelter.
