On the 29th of September 1938 a stricken Wellesley bomber broke cloud over Cock hill Kedington. In a steep dive and already breaking up, the bomber struck the ground with the loss of the three young men comprising its crew. This would be the first in a sequence of air accidents in our village that would, by the end of hostilities, claim the lives of a further seventeen airmen and one very brave civilian who died attempting to assist one of these crews.

Our aim as a group....

is to provide a fitting and permanent memorial to the twenty aircrew and one civilian who lost their lives in Kedington during the build up to, and the course of World War Two.

Enthusiastic fundraising has been ongoing for three years and has been generously supported by the villge, local visitors to events, friends, relatives and local businesses.The support has been fantastic and encouraging, and we are delighted the project is well on it's way.

We have commissioned an inspirational artwork in the form of a sculpted angel along with a parchment roll of honour listing the crews of these four bombers and the civilian. The artwork will be placed in the Community Centre and it is hoped that it will become a new focal point for reflection and an intrinsic part of the village's act of remembrance each year.

Having been amazingly fortunate to have the talented, Sean Hedges-Quinn kindly agree to sculpt our memorial last year, our confidence soared. Seam has now created the most beautiful and fitting memorial that is ready to be used to make the finest silicone & fibreglass mold to capture every detail for casting. We have already raise £1,000 of the molding fee and now we are working on raising the remaining £1,000, so we can complete this vital part of the project. .

Our ongoing goal is to contine to raise funds to cast the memorial & create a role of honour and record of each man lost, to be displayed as a permenant memorial.

Having completed the initial fundraising, (thank youl to everyone who has donated so far) if you can help us with this important third step, ww would be delighted.This is the step that preserves Sean's work until we can raise the remaining funds for the casting.

It is our sincere hope that when we complete and unveil the memorial, surviving family members of the brave Men we are honouring and everyone who has helped and donated to the project will be present to witness and receive our warm thanks.
