Keep River Lawn Green is the community campaign which is opposed to Tonbridge and Malling Borough Council selling off our property assets in Tonbridge town centre. We have launched this fundraising to cover the costs of legal action and to take areas under threat of sale by TMBC for development into community ownership.

The fund will be administered by the organising group of Keep River Lawn Green and will be used to further the aims of our group. We are determined to see the open spaces and characterful buildings preserved and brought back to their former glory for future generations to enjoy. If this means legal action or purchasing the property ourselves that is the route we are prepared to take.

Doing nothing is too awful to contemplate, we do not want to see our trees and grass swallowed up by a sea of concrete, we want to leave our children and grandchildren a town they can be proud of. The areas we will save were bought in the 1920's in honour of those who survived the cholera epidemic of the 1850's and the horror of the Great War.

The Riverside Walk was in part designed to give veterans employment following their service. The greatest honour we can bestow on them today is to ensure these areas remain in public hands today.

Please give generously and help us preserve the living tribute at River Lawn in the shape of the mature trees and the open spaces there.

We know it is odd to have to raise money to buy something which was already ours but these are strange days when a local authority puts pounds in its account at a higher premium than listening to its residents.

With your help we can transform these areas into truly fantastic spaces for our town, we have ambitious plans to work in partnership to create something truly worthwhile that we can all benefit from and be proud of.

Our riverside is one of Tonbridge's biggest unrealised assets, please help us unlock its potential.

Unspent funds would be distributed among local charities.
