On 5th March 2018 my brother and sister in law received the worst news imaginable. Their baby girl’s heart had stopped at 37 weeks and 4 days. On 6 March my niece, Sophie, was born sleeping.

They were cared for in the Forget Me Not Suite at the RUH in Bath. This is a specially designed bereavement suite set away from the main maternity ward. Within the suite Sophie had a ‘cuddle cot’ – a moses basket which is kept cool, allowing family the chance to meet her and cuddle her. Memories we will always cherish.

The family were provided with a memory box. Amongst other things it contained a hand-knitted blanket, two identical teddies (one stayed with Sophie) and other keepsakes. These boxes are provided by Sands, the stillbirth and neonatal death charity.

Professional photos were taken by a photographer from Remember My Baby, and these were then given to the family for free.

The hospital also covered the costs of Sophie’s funeral.
