Story
We received notification yesterday, 17th June, from our architect that a significant section of the ruin is in imminent danger of collapse, the area in question being the location of Scotland's first James Watt Steam Engine (1786).
When the rotten lintels fail we will loose a significant part of industrial heritage and possibly also loose evidence relating to the steam engine.
Historic Environmental Scotland have been made aware of the situation
and expect to conduct a survey next week.
These additional funds (a guesstimate of £25 000) will enable Kennetpans Trust, working with HES, to start immediately on a full consolidation of this area without removing funds from other vulnerable areas.
The importance of Kennetpans cannot be over estimated with regard to the industrial and archaeological heritage of Scotland and to distilling worldwide.
Widely accepted as the birthplace of the Scotch Whisky Industry and as the world's first industrial distillery, Kennetpans Distillery is where distilling left the farmyards and became a true industry. To this day the legacy of Kennetpans lives on through the Haig and Jameson brands both of which have their roots at Kennetpans.
This ruin must be saved and it needs your help now.
Some expert's comments about the ruin:
Kennetpans is the ground zero of the whisky industry”
Neil Wilson, Whisky Historian, Writer and Publisher
"If any part of Scotland's distilling industry, indeed its whole industrial legacy, deserves to be saved Kennetpans is surely it"”
Ian Buxton, Keeper of the Quaich
Ex Group Marketing Director for Glenmorangie
"The distilleries founded by the Steins ...were the largest manufacturing undertaking of any kind to emerge during the first decade of the Industrial Revolution in Scotland"
Professor John R. Hume

8 years agoThis morning as I walked down to the ruin there were two songs going through my mind. The songs were Another Brick in the Wall and I'm Still Standing. No idea why it was these song as I don't really like either of them but they are both appropriate for the wall we are trying to save. Glad to say Elton John's title is correct at this time although we could still do with some more of Pink Floyd's bricks. Can anyone suggest other songs that are relevant so that I can get these two out of my head? Another image that makes my heart sing -
