Story

I’m going to be fundraising for a charity called Hornbeam Wood Hedgehog Sanctuary .

I will be walking 5 ¾ miles (9.25 km) - probably up to 6 miles (10 km) by the time a game or 2 of tag have got involved! - and will climb 1/8 mile (220 metres). The walk is from sea level (Rackwick Beach) up to the top of the cliffs (level with the top of the Old Man of Hoy). This is a difficult challenge, and I hope you will support me while I take it on.

Why am I doing it? My school, St Albans High School for Girls (STAHS) Prep sets a charity challenge over the summer holidays. Some of the girls do presentations in assembly about a charity they support, and back in class we vote our three favourite charities that have been presented. You don’t have to do a presentation, but I did one on GOSH (Great Ormond Street Hospital) with 3 of my friends. Our charity didn’t win the vote; the winners were Blue Cross, Hornbeam Wood Hedgehog Sanctuary, and Cancer Research.

You then choose which of the 3 charities you would like to support and can try to raise money in all sorts of different ways. This year I have chosen to do a sponsored walk for Hornbeam Wood Hedgehog Sanctuary.

I hope you sponsor my walk to the Old Man of Hoy to help me raise funds for the Hornbeam Wood Hedgehog Sanctuary.

Thank you!

[Note: Mum and Dad will cover the JustGiving fees, so the entire amount you give will go to the Hornbeam Wood Hedgehog Sanctuary]

Sponsored walk completed!

Starting at Racwick Beach.

Touching the sea to ensure the walk was truly 'from sea level'.

On the right track...

Onwards and upwards...

Taking care near the cliffs.

Good vantage point.

At the Old Man.

Playing 'Waltzing Matilda' before heading back.

Pointing out where she still has to get back to, in order to complete the walk.

Mission accomplished, despite the less than perfect weather.

And the stats, for those who want to know. The distance was actually a little longer, as we counted the car park to the beach separately. We also visited the Craw's Nest Museum on the way back (at the apex of the little triangle).
