In the summer, I along with a group of volunteers from Strathaven Academy will be joining a trip to Ghana where we will be helping to finish the construction of 2 classrooms in Shalom School. The school was established in 2002 and has over 300 pupils aged from 3-16 years old, however, is overpopulated and needs more classrooms as currently there is only 6. The school is run for a small fee which provides a daily feeding program for the children to get a good nutritious meal whilst they are at school.
On our trip, we will be helping to build, paint and decorate classrooms as well as teaching the children math and English. Without people going out volunteering and helping to educate the children and build the classrooms the school would be shut down.
