    Story

I have teamed up with Maximum Adventure to climb Mont Blanc in September in aid of UNICEF. Mont Blanc, EU’s highest mountain, stands at nearly 16,000ft and is renowned for it’s avalanches, lack of oxygen, and extreme weather. Oxygen levels at the summit are less than half what they are at sea level, and temperatures, even in summer, are regularly below -20°C. It will take 2-3 days (depending on weather conditions) to summit the mountain, with 2am starts and 15-20 hour days. In the days leading up to the climb, I will also summit the Aiguille du Tour (over 11,000ft) and the Col du Midi (over 12,000ft) to help me acclimatise to the lack of oxygen. Ove the course of the week, I will climb an equivalent gained height of 29,800ft - the height of Mount Everest.

    - It is ranked 11th in the world in topographic prominence

    - Mont Blanc averages nearly 100 fatalities a year, and there have been over 8,000 deaths in total, more than any other mountain on earth

    - Lowest ever temperature -43°C

    - Oxygen makes up only 10% of the air at the summit

    - Four times the height of Ben Nevis

UNICEF help millions of vulnerable children around the world who have been born into dangerous situations, be it war, famine, or areas prone to natural disasters.

There is currently a large number of UNICEF volunteers working in Syria:

    - 56% of all Syrian children are currently in desperate need of help.

    - There are nearly 40,000 babies born as refugees

    - Over 3 million are out of school

    - And there are over 4,000 schools which have been destroyed during the ongoing conflict.

Some of the money raised will go towards the guides used to help make the trip possible, which is why this is being done as a crowdfunder.

Making the most of the long weekend with a good winter hill walk on Saturday and finishing it off with a proper climb on Monday up Carn Chuinneag in Sutherland. Not following the long path around the side and across the ridge, but instead going straight up the north slopes to the summit. Difficult going in a mix of deep drifts and compacted snow and ice. Reached the summit but as you can see from the picture (taken just below the summit), the views weren't overly impressive.

I'm supporting UNICEF as I feel there are too many children in terrible situations around the world who we forget about, and we can all do something to help
