Story

This time last year was the best and worst time for us and our family and friends. Ava had just been born and was perfect, our family of 6 was complete. When she was 3 weeks old we had a car accident and almost lost her. The other vehicle involved was a lorry, ava had nerve damage to one eye and a brain hemorage and was in Sheffield children's hospital. I had broken my pelvis in 3 places and was in hull but transferred to Sheffield after an operation to be closer to ava. Ava was in intensive care in an induced coma, we were told for the first few nights not to get our hopes up, she was there for about 1 1/2 weeks then stayed another week or so after being fed through tubed and medicated for seizures. We were told that she may not meet her milestones and they didn't know how she would be when she woke up. It was just a waiting and guessing game. Chuck was lucky enough to be given a room to stay with her. The ambulance service took me from hospital to the children's hospital to see ava and brought me back again every other day or so. They went out of their way to make sure I was comfortable and to get me over to see ava as much as possible. The hospital let me borrow a breast pump and some hearts made from fabric so she could have a better chance of getting better and to feel close to me. The doctors, nurses and ambulance crews did an amazing job and ava has met ALL of her milestones and no one would know what she's a been through just by seeing her now. She is still under the eye department and neurologist but these are just for checkups. We've had so many appointments this last year i was expecting a bill through to pay rent for our time there. We're so greatful for the work that the hospital and ambulance service has done so that we could still be a family. They gave us the chance to come home with ava and be a family again with our other children and made her better, we can't thank them enough for the amazing and priceless work they have done and still do.
