Story

St Michael’s are currently in the process of opening a provision for speech, language and communication needs, something that will not only benefit my family, but many other children who attend the school. Alongside the provision, St Michael’s will be creating a sensory room. With the addition of a sensory space, children will have the opportunity to access a safe, calming and engaging environment that can help support their needs, allowing them to thrive in the school environment. Such spaces are designed to reduce anxiety, regulate emotions and support focus by offering soothing sensory input through lights, textures, sounds and movement. For children who may struggle with overstimulation or emotional regulation in the classroom, a sensory space offers a place where they can reset and help them to self-regulate.

In return for all of the amazing things that St Michael’s have done for my family, Dean and I are taking part in the Ultra Challenge 10 mile Thames Moonlight Walk on Friday 12th September to raise money to go towards the new sensory room.

The Thames Moonlight walk is a 10 mile looped route through London, where we will pass famous landmarks including St Paul’s Cathedral, Westminster Abbey and Tower Bridge. During the walk, we will also pass Southwark Cathedral, a home from home to St Michael’s where many children past, present and future get the privilege of going during their time at the school.

We would really appreciate any donations at all to put towards the new sensory room. Thank you for taking the time to read 💜
