Story
Being told you have cancer is like someone exploding a bomb in your life. It will never be the same again.
That's what happened to me this year. "I think it's very likely cancer" my gynaecologist told me - and it was. I woke up from surgery to have the news confirmed. Because it had spread into a couple of lymph nodes, I've needed chemo. I've now completed chemo and am doing ok, but I need your help.
A a freelancer (and not that well-paid), I don't have savings to tide me over. Nor do I qualify for state help. I have no partner or parents to help pay the bills. But I still have rent to pay and all the other costs. That's where you can really make a difference. If I can raise my target it will mean that I won't have to worry about paying rent. I'm pushing myself to work when I can but I really should be resting more.
Whatever you can spare will really make a difference. Nothing is too small, it all adds up. Please help. I've been dealt a rotten hand but I'm trying to handle it with as much grace and courage as I can find. Cancer will not bring me down. Help me fight it.

7 years ago£3000 isn't a lot to some people, but it will make a huge difference to me. It will be around 6 months rent. If I could raise even more, that will help pay other living costs as well. Your help is both needed and valued, so please donate whatever you can spare.

7 years agoI expected this last chemo to hit the hardest, and the effects have certainly lasted ,longer. Rest and recuperation is needed. The recovery doesn't end with the chemo. This has taken a lot out of me physically and emotionally, and I am perhaps only realising now just how much. I work when I can, but sometimes I do some writing even though chemo brain doesn't really want to. The closer I get to my goal, the more I will be able to listen to my body and brain) and turn down work when I really should be resting.

7 years agoChemo is over! Had my last session 2 days ago. Nice end to the year after the stress of the last 6 months. Now a year of medication and a few months' recovery. So your help is still important, as I won't be able to do more than minimal work for a while yet. And a huge thanks to everyone who's donated, shared, and promoted my fund. You have helped make things a little easier and made me feel better that there are people who care. Every donation has meaning, whether it's £10 or £100.
