    Story

A lie can travel half way around the world while the truth is putting on its shoes."

    - Charles Spurgeon.

A lie can travel faster than the truth. Lies are prevalent, palatable, and persistent. In our world of fake-news and alternative-facts, the truth continues to matter. It's the truth Kristi wishes to serve through her doctoral studies.

Kristi embarked upon her academic adventure towards a PhD in Philosophical Theology (University of Birmingham) a year ago, thanks to generous contributions from friends and family.

Now that she is being released to study part-time alongside her job as a Research Fellow and Pastoral Care Assistant (part-time) at Oak Hill College, she is looking to form a giving team who will support her in meeting the research costs for her doctorate over the next 3-4 years of part-time study. That's right, she is hoping to submit her thesis early!

You may be thinking, 'Why bother giving towards the work of an academic?', especially when there are so many other more obvious needs and giving streams. Kristi has recently been reminded of the importance of developing a Christian mind. And it is her hope that this PhD will not only equip her for life-long ministry, but that it would also be a means of serving the academy, the church, and, perhaps, even our own hearts.

Apart from a Christian mind we will either be taken captive by the myriad of worldviews contending for our attention, or we will fail to make the Christian voice heard and considered above the din."

    – James Emery White, A Mind for God, 16.

Knowing (epistemology) is what keeps her awake at night. She is exploring these two questions: What is knowing? And, why does it matter?

The question of truth isn't one that is going away anytime soon. Financially enabling Kristi to construct a rigorous analysis and approach to this question as a Christian is its own unique reward, but when this is coupled with her desire to use this PhD in her persuasive understanding and witness, which will continue well beyond these next 3-4yrs... Well, that could be an exciting venture, indeed.

Will you support this female Christian academic as she seeks to gain the qualification necessary to make a long-lasting impact for Jesus' Kingdom?

Kristi is ideally looking for a team of givers who will be able to give regularly on a monthly basis. Please click 'donate monthly' on the top right hand side of this page. This will make funding her doctoral studies sustainable.

18 people giving £10 per month will cover her research fees 2018-2019 (£2,190).

54 people giving £10 per month will cover her research fees 2018-2021.

Alternatively, if you would like to make a one-off donation, you can do so here, or at paypal.me/givingtokristi.

Thank you so much for considering joining Kristi's team. Giving to her studies isn't a mere financial buffer, it is essential. Without your support, she will be unable to continue to with her studies. If you are unable to give financially at present, please do join us by praying the Lord would provide the funds necessary to cover these costs.

    Final words from Emma Watson:

Women share this planet 50/50 and they are underrepresented—their potential astonishingly untapped."

(Alternatively, if you would like to give, but not through JustGiving so as to avoid processing fees, then please do get in touch [kmairteam@gmail.com] and Kristi can pass her details directly on to you. Thank you.)

Meet Dr. Dan Strange. He is the College Director of Oak Hill College, London. Dan lectures in culture, religion, and public theology. He is married to Elly, they have seven children, and they own one of the barmiest and most endearing dogs ever known. 🐶 We caught up with Dan and asked him about Kristi's doctoral work. He said this: "Kristi is that rare but much needed combination: a faithful and creative female evangelist and academic. Supporting Kristi in her doctoral studies will be a strategic gospel investment."

Meet Kristi's primary PhD supervisor, David Cheetham. He is Reader in Philosophical Theology, Head of School of Philosophy, Theology and Religion, and Co-Director of the John Hick Centre for the Philosophy of Religion at University of Birmingham. He has this to say about Kristi's doctoral project: "This work takes things in a promising new direction." You could be part of a team that will bring this "promising new direction" in academia to light. Kristi would love you to join her team.
