    Story

In 2011, Catherine James Njau, co-founder of Kuleana Organisations, a teacher at Mboni Secondary School in Mount Kilimanjaro Region, head of english department and life skills coordinator, started a revolutionary idea to help young girls in education with their menstrual hygiene.

She noticed that girls had been missing days of school because they did not have the money or proper resources to help the during their periods. So Catherine set out to help them by selling them pads for cheaper. Nobody should be missing education because of something they can't help.

The Kuleana Organisation, dealing with youth empowerment, has been working with a Kenyan Organisation called Huru to design and produce re-usable sanitary products. These products have began to help girls within the school - but Catherine and her team are striving for more. These pads are called; 'Waridi Pads'.

These pads are made from material, with a clip at the bottom instead of sticky strips. These are well padded, but not so that it would make you feel uncomfortable. By using these, you will reduce waste and save money. Two or three is all you will ever need for the year. You wash them as you go, put on a clean one and carry on.

Women from the villages have been employed to manufacture these products.

To begin with, Waridi Pads helped 12 girls. But after demand began to grow higher, with the help from the American Embassy, they managed to get a grant and support over 500 girls.

'Waridi Pads' in Tanzania needs more money to help them produce more re-usable pads. They wish to distribute them across country and help as many young girls as they can.

With your help, we can buy machines and the means to produce and distribute more pads to girls who need them.

Even if you can't donate - share this age onwards and help these women get a name for themselves. Every pound is step closer to helping us achieve our goals.
