Garner ward is a dementia assessment unit for people with complex care needs. Patients on our ward suffer from symptoms that are distressing and can prove challenging for care givers. Our aim is to initiate treatments and care plan how to meet individual’s needs so that they can return back to the community. We use a bio psychosocial model of care to look at the whole person, their needs and how best to provide their care to maximise their quality of life.

Our committed ward team want to raise money to make improvements to the ward to enhance the surroundings for the patients. We want to make a designated cinema area for patients to help provide socialising activities and reminiscence. We can use this area for cinema nights; themed events around sports and other major events Chelsea flower show, last night of the proms, the queen’s speech at Christmas. We also want to make improvements to our conservatory so that it can be used all year round and provide more space for our patients. We believe that these improvements will help in our patients’ recovery and their ability to engage in the world around them​.

15 of Garner Ward staff have signed up for 'Holy Grit' which is a 6km beach obstacle course taking place in Newquay on the 7th of October and many staff have been training to get fit for this event and would be grateful for all donations received for a great cause.
