LAGER Can Earth Day Recycling Challenge, Thursday 22nd April
The Litter Action Group for Ealing Residents (LAGER Can) is a rapidly growing group of people who hate litter and are prepared to do something about it. Our membership currently stands at around 1,400. We work all over the London Borough of Ealing, and sometimes across the border into Hillingdon, Hounslow and Brent. In March 2021 we spent 2,530 volunteer-hours collecting the equivalent of 4,817 bags of rubbish, making our Borough and neighbouring Boroughs cleaner and greener.
Thursday 22nd April is Earth Day, and LAGER Can is marking it by asking as many of our members as possible to fill at least one bag with recyclables and put them in their own or a public recycling bin.
If you are not taking part in the LAGER Can Earth Day Recycling Challenge, but appreciate the work we do, we would be immensely grateful for your donation, no matter how small.
We are fundraising for Ealing Foodbank and LAGER Can - each will receive 50% of the proceeds.
About Ealing Foodbank
Foodbank is completely supported by donations - money, food and volunteer time; and the response to the pandemic has been almost overwhelming in both the generosity of strangers and the need of local people.
We knew 2020 was going to be an exceptional year and then the pandemic hit hard; the number of people being referred to us increased 150%, and this financial year we have given away in excess of 36,795 three-day food parcels to 12,723 people (21,338 adults and 15,457 children). To put that into context, in the full year 2019/20 the figures were 14,404 parcels, 6,296 referrals representing 8,725 adults and 5,679 children.
We are incredibly grateful for the support that we have received - over 280 tonnes of food have been given out to our clients and a further 12 tonnes to other local organisations who are also helping feed people (organisations like schools, homeless charities, pop-up food hubs, soup kitchens etc).
We can't do what we do without the support of others - in fact we can ONLY do what we do because of the support of others, so thank you for being part of that support. We expect that this year will continue to be difficult for many in our borough, as the economy struggles to recover and we hope to be able to carry on restoring dignity and reviving hope for those in need of food support.

LAGER Can is generously supported by Ealing Council, who provide LAGER Can-branded bags and adult vests, adult litter pickers and gloves. We would like to raise funds to buy items such as trolleys, tools (secateurs, loppers, rakes, etc). We would also like to be able to purchase junior litter pickers and hi-vis vests to meet the increasing demand for LAGER Can support from schools. We would also like to be able to invest in various other items aimed at reducing littering and flytipping.
