Story
Lancaster University Tennis Team are aiming to raise as much money as possible to fund expenses for our coach and indoor training. The courts we currently train on are outdoors at our university campus; these kind of courts aren't the most suitable for the Lancaster rain/winter weather! Not only this, our newly established Tennis Society will be participating along with the team to gain some high-class tennis coaching and raise some money to fund their weekly sessions; in the hope of encouraging more students to join! An amount of 20% of what we are able to raise will be donated to Africa Mission, an incredible charity that works closely in developing countries, such as Uganda, to provide basic sporting and educational activities to younger people to create future opportunities.
To raise money, both our team and society will be completing a 10 HOUR TENNIS-A-THON on the 18th of November from 7am - 5pm. We'll be sporting some friendly games, coaching for some avid tennis lovers, and many competitive matches! Your support is essential to our continuation of our developing tennis team and society, as well as our contribution to this amazing charity, so ANY DONATION will be massively appreciated!
About AfricaMission:
Cooperation and Development
"Co-operation and Development, a non-profit organization, is the operational branch of the association Africa Mission, currently present in Uganda with two permanent establishments in Kampala and Moroto. Some specifically ongoing projects are:
Support to local communities which are already in the territory, through donations of food and non-food items.
Socio-educational sector: through recreational activities in the Youth Center of the Moroto compound, the provision of school lessons to 3 to 16 years old children, as well as the training and awareness-raising against certain practices that are still present in those areas, such as children and women exploitation"
The DON VITTORIO YOUTH CENTER in Uganda targets to "encourage growth and roots of values in young Karimojong generations through sporting, playful, educational activities and create cultural / technical growth opportunities." Through doing so, every afternoon around 400 children partake in sports (such as football) where the charity aims to teach life skills and values, whilst keeping young children off the streets away from trouble.
