Story
Larry is a rescue cat who came to us following a very shaky start in life. He spent several weeks at Chesterfield RSPCA, earlier this year, being treated for general neglect and sores on his body. When we first met him, he was a very tense and defensive young cat. As a long haired moggie he has had to grow back lots of his hair which turned him into a rather handsome chap. Larry came to live in our quiet house and over time transformed into a calm, confident and very adventurous little cat. He also grew to enjoy the company of our older cat and the two are now inseparable.
Earlier this week Larry was mauled by a dog, approximately Monday 3rd July . His injuries are too horrific to show publicly but have left him with with extensive skin and muscle loss to his groin to mid calf region of his back leg . He returned home with extensive infection, dehydration and blood loss. On examination his femoral artery had been missed by 2 mm.
He is under the care of excellent vets and is now recovering slowly.
We have pet insurance but because of his previous history and a series of exclusions, the company would only provide a maximum of £2000. We will reach this limit by the end of next week.
Larry will remain in the veterinary hospital for another week as he has to have his dressing changed under sedation and his open wounds need to be kept as sterile as possible. He will then progress to a long haul of rehabilitation and regular treatment to enable him to walk again and recover.
In himself, Larry is trying to stand up, eating and drinking again. He is very happy and has won the hearts of the veterinary team. He is a determined little chap who deserves every chance to recover.
Please any small donation would really help get Larry back to his old self. Any excess raised will be donated to local cat charities.
Verification of Larry and his extensive needs can be given by our local vets if needed.
Thank you so much for reading this and for your kind thoughts.

7 years agoLarry continues to make steady progress. He only visits the vet twice a week for his wound dressings and is now off all his medication. A huge immense thank you to all for your kind words and donations. Thank you so much, Fiona and big purr from Larry.

7 years agoLarry is doing well and enjoying being home. He has 2 new Larry suits to prevent him chewing his dressings and of course to make him look more handsome. His dressing type is changing on Friday to promote healing of the wound. These are very costly but have the potential benefit of reducing the overall time of healing. Thank you for your kind comments and support.

7 years agoLarry is now home and doing well with regular dressings changes by the vet. Oddly my previous updates and photos haven't been saved or shared by the system.

7 years agoLarry may be coming home on Saturday. At the moment he is causing chaos by removing his dressings, trying to escape and thinks the staff all belong to him. He is back to his normal eating and walking well. Whenever he stretches he feels a few twinges as there are still plenty of sutures in place. Overall he has progressed beyond expectation and we are so looking forward to having him home. We can then take him for dressings at the local vets. Thank you for all your advice and general support for Larry the feline friend.
