    Story

    Our story

On the 10th April 2017 Joe and I found out we were expecting a baby - amazing, right? Only our happiness was short lived. On the 14th of June we went for our 12 weeks scan and was told our baby was very poorly! After a trip to see the specialist at Leeds hospital and further scans and tests we were told that our baby was actually measuring 13 weeks 4 days but had an extreme case of exompholus - which is where the organs are developing on the outside of the belly rather than the inside. Along with this, his heart was in the wrong place and the spine was twisted. After trying to take it all in we were given a decision to make. A decision which put mum and baby at risk. Either carry on see how far the pregnancy would get (only there was a 1% chance of survival and if this was to be the baby would need major life threatening operations as soon as it would be born) or the other decision was to have a medical termination... how does anyone make that decision? Especially those who have tried for a baby for 2 years.
So, after a long cry, think and talk we had to do what was fair. What was fair on the baby, ensuring he didnā€™t go through all the pain and suffering. So we made our decision to end the pregnancy. This was the hardest decision of our lives to make. We were then booked in for the following Tuesday, making baby 14weeks 4 days old.
The day came and we went to hospital where we were given a tablet to stop the hormones, then 2 days later we went back to be induced. This time, rather than going to a ward or a room on the labour ward we were shown to Airedale's Sunbeam Suite! Here we were given a beautiful room which was like home from home with a living area including a tv, kettle, fridge, a suite with cushions and throws and also a bedroom with a double bed and ensuite. As hard as our time was, this room made things more bearable. On the 23rd of June at 7:30am, after 13 and half hours of labour, we had a beautiful sleeping baby boy - Isaac joešŸ’™

I didn't have enough charecters to finish my story - But this page is to raise money and awareness for such a wonderful charity so close to mine and joes hearts ā¤ 'Aidan's elephants the sun beam support group' And to allow others to receive one of the amazing memory boxes me & joe were given after the birth of my beautiful sleeping baby boy , which made the whole thing that tiny bit more bareable. Without the private room we were given, and the amazing midwives - I wouldn't have the strength to be where I am today šŸ’™ THANK YOU ā¤
