This is Laurie who is currently 13 weeks old. She was born via a ventouse delivery and weighed a healthy 9lb.

During the birth we believe the ventouse was placed incorrectly on her head and as a result she has a flat head on one side as the opposite side having been pulled out by the ventouse and never went back into place. She suffered an extremely bruised head, a broken nose, is unable to fully close her right eye and is also unable to fully turn her head to the left hand side or place her left arm in front of her when on her tummy.

She has been assessed as having severe plagieocephaly however it is completely fixable with the help of a helmet which will be worn 23 hours a day for around 3 to 6 months or longer if needed to help reshape her head.

Unfortunately this treatment is not available on the NHS as it is considered a cosmetic condition that won't effect her brain development, that may be the case but without treatment my daughters speech may be affected, she will not be able to wear a proper fitting bike helmet or if she was to require glasses they would not fit her face properly as already her ears have become disaligned and her forehead protrudes and bulges out above her ears. It may not effect her brain development but it certainly will effect her self esteem and confidence as she gets older as her facial features will be noticibly distorted as she grows.

This condition is common as a result of the SIDS campaign that babies must sleep on their back which has resulted in more cases of plagieocephaly and sometimes repositioning can help however in Lauries case her head is this way as a result of the birth and unfortunately repositioning has had no effect at all. The helmet is now our only way to 'fixing' her flat.

The cost of a helmet treatment is £2,025 and she will also need weekly cranial osteopathy and physio sessions - an expensive process, that's why we are asking for your help to fund towards her treatment and 'fixing her flat'! x
