Weʼre raising £3,000 to support the Georgina Unit, Hollybush Care Home, and Leslie's Care Packages
- Heart of Stourbridge
Crowdfunding is a new type of fundraising where you can raise funds for your own personal cause, even if you're not a registered charity.
The page owner is responsible for the distribution of funds raised.
Vi Wood, the founder of Leslie’s Care Packages (LCP) is having her hair dyed pink in support of cancer sufferers and in aid of the Georgina Unit at Russell’s Hall, Hollybush House Care Home and Leslie’s Care Packages. Her son, Dean, is also having a sponsored head shave in aid of the appeal.
Gregg Westwood, Owner of The Hair Lounge in Wollaston, responded to an appeal which was posted by Vi Wood on her Facebook page, he immediately offered his support and help.
Vi Wood set up the Facebook page entitled Leslie’s Care Packages (LCP) in 2016 in memory of her husband. Her aim is to help the homeless, vulnerable and needy people throughout the Black Country and beyond, giving hope, hands-on practical and emotional support, as well as providing much needed provisions such as food, toiletries, clothing baby and household items.
LCP is a Voluntary group, Non-Funded, and Not-for-Profit. They rely totally on the kindness and generosity of the general public and business for donations. Our supporters and donors are from all life of walks are spread across the West Midlands and beyond.
For the past two years Vi has also supported several other registered charities and organisation including the YMCA in Dudley and West Bromwich, the Homeless shelter in Lye, the Black Country women’s aid, and CHADD in Dudley.
On the 24th of August 2018, Vi Wood is celebrating the 2nd Anniversary of LCP – Leslie’s Care Packages. To celebrate the anniversary, Vi, family and friends are organising a 10k sponsored Walk along the canal, braving the shave, and going pink all in aid of the Georgina Unit at Russell’s Hall, Hollybush House Care Home and Leslie’s Care Packages.
Vi explained why she had chosen to support the Georgina Unit. The nurses and doctors do amazing work, and they took good care of Leslie whilst he had his treatment back in 2015/16. She further added whenever Les had to go there, which was very nerve-racking for the both of us, they always made us feel at ease.
Vi also wants to support Hollybush Care Home, as she had worked in senior care and as a support worker for near to two years and is now working at Hollybush as a catering assistant. The home cares for people with dementia, so she understands the struggle and suffering many families face.
LCP is always in need of food and toiletry donations, so after any proceeds have been split, LCP’s share will be used for preparing care packages and parcels for the needy.
Her nineteen-year-old son, Dean, is braving the shave, on the 24th of August 2018, in memory of his Dad, and in honour of two years of Leslie’s Care Packages. At the same salon, Vi Wood is going pink, having her hair coloured in memory of her late husband Leslie, and in honour of friends and anyone living with cancer.
A few days later, the sponsored walk will take place. The pink walk will start from the Bonded Warehouse, Canal Street, Stourbridge at 11am on the 1st of September 2018. Vi will be displaying her new pink her so please wear something pink in support of people with cancer. Anyone is welcome to join the sponsored walk; a £5 donation or more would be very much appreciated. Bring along your dogs, children and relatives.
