    Story

Next summer, I will join the University of Exeter’s Volunteer Project team to work with children in one of the poorest and remote rural villages of the Fiji Islands. My team and I will get involved in the kindergarten and primary school program, improve children's literacy, increase access to fresh water, sanitation, and health, build schools and use sport and social activities as a mean to increase children's social skills (Maths, English, sport, art, music), confidence and self-esteem.
    Why Fiji?
    • Many people are not aware that over 1/3 of children in rural Fiji live below the poverty line.
    • Schools in remote areas of Fiji suffer from great lack of teachers and teaching resources and many families struggle to meet their daily needs. Furthermore, last year’s cyclone destroyed over 200 schools and communities lost their farms and sustainable livelihoods.
    • Over 75% of children currently do not have access to fresh water or proper sanitation.
I will be volunteering with the Fijian Charity Think Pacific Foundation in partnership with the Fijian Ministries of Education, Youth and Sports and Health.
They support thousands of Fijian children living in the poorest and most vulnerable areas.
Hearing about the needs of the children in Fiji, I have a huge desire to help and feel I can make a difference on this project both by volunteering time to teach and deliver youth programs.
PLEASE NOTE: I will pay my flights/ insurance/injections and travel to get to Fiji by myself.
Your kind support will be greatly appreciated to help me achieve my goal.
The majority of the money I am raising will be used directly to provide long-term support to children, such as purchasing books, stationary, and school resources to sports equipment. Additionally, it will provide training for locals, and achieve rebuild society in areas most impacted by the cyclone.
