    Leeds Deaf Children's Society

Founded in 1998, run by parents and carers (as volunteers) who themselves have children with varying degrees of hearing loss, from mild to profound. Leeds-DCS want to help by providing fun activities and support for adults, parents, carers and children throughout the year.

Leeds Deaf Children's Society is a constituted voluntary group associated with but separate to the National Deaf Children's Society charity. To find out more please get in touch on Facebook or email leeds@ndcsgroup.org.uk

All money raised here will be transferred to Leeds Deaf Children's Society on a regular basis.

    Activities

Families with deaf children frequently feel isolated, particularly at school, so simple meet ups with other children who require hearing support really helps them understand they're normal. The earlier we can support deaf/hearing impaired children, the more independent and capable they are in later life. Therefore, it's essential the community helps itself by regularly meeting and supporting each other.

Some of the 2019 activities lined up so far:

Regular soft play meetups, often supporting families with newly diagnosed children.

Regular Street Dance tuition to engage with music and expression, particularly in tune with high-school age youth.

Ice skating at Millennium Square, great for all ages.

Yearly pantomime as a fantastic opportunity for the group to show its strength and meet everyone across age groups.

Big thank you to Ice Cube Leeds for opening up the doors early for children's groups with additional needs. Leeds Deaf Children's Society was certainly one of the main contingent - great to see so many join in!

My son was diagnosed with Auditory Neuropathy upon leaving hospital following being born 3 months prematurely. We've been with Leeds Deaf Children's Society for 10 years and I'm helping to fund and foster the community further. Leeds-DCS will receive all funds raised.
