We are a Deaf led organisation and we have a Deaf Centre in Frog Island providing a range of activities, services and a space for community to happen. Its focus is primarily for Deaf people based in Leicester, Leicestershire and Rutland but anyone is welcome. While being a vibrant and busy home for the deaf community our centre is in need of modernisation. E.G A Kitchen our current kitchen has no water and we are living like campers, trawling water from the nearest tap, it keeps us fit. With all this walking and the amount of people coming in and out of the centre we are also in need of a new carpet. Our aim is to continue to make this a warm and welcoming place for people who use our centre.

During the last six years we have expanded, we were housed within a disused air conditioning warehouse, and with the support of other charitable/voluntary groups the building has slowly transformed into more of a community space. New Deaf projects have moved into the NUMBER 12 building and access to the upper floors has become an issue for Deaf people with mobility issues. We would like to install a second hand stair lift - a new one would be nice! This stair lift will make a huge difference.

This funding could also help us to create more 'visual' information in British Sign Language, we need a better quality camera. Improving access to information has a positive impact on Deaf peoples lives. The information that hearing people often take for granted.

We are a great team and all are volunteers who show great passion and determination in the work they do to impact the lives of Deaf people. Though we have many Deaf people using our services we know we are only scratching the surface and would love to reach the whole community.
