This summer we joined a programme called NCS which is government funded and aimed at young people aged 15-17. NCS stands for national citizen services, during week one we got the opportunity to travel to the isle of wight where we completed a series of challenging activities. Week two involved us staying in university accommodation which enabled us to gain independence and life skills. Now were into week three and four which is our social action part of the programme. Our aim for the next two weeks is to make a difference in our local community, Weston Super Mare.

As a team we have decided to fundraise for 2 charities in our area. The money raised will go to the charity, 'Somewhere To Go' and Bibic. Somewhere To Go is a Weston based charity which provides a day centre for the homeless where they can get a hot meal, socialise and gain other vital skills needed to get back in the community. Also they issue essential supplies such as gloves, hats and toiletries. The charity will also receive donations so they can continue to support the homeless with issues they might be facing.

They work with children aged 6 months and up with neurological and genetic conditions that cause developmental difficulties and affect their social, physical, communication and learning abilities.

Our aim is to raise £250 from our varied fundraising events including;

a sponsored sleep out on Wednesday the 2nd of August.
A flash mob
A movie screening
A sponsored walk
A raffle

We chose to help these charities because as a team we have seen the number on the streets increase and we have seen first hand how this charity can help. A couple who were living on the streets got in contact with Somewhere To Go and the charity managed to help them secure a residence. Whereas Bibic continue to provide essential support for families all throughout North Somerset. In order for these charities to run, they needs donations and funds so we hope this event can really benefit it.
