    Story

I’m staging my play: Elena, Katia, Olga and the Others in Greater Manchester. It is about the siege of Leningrad, which lasted almost 900 days during WW2. Almost a million civilians died of cold and hunger. For many years censorship of the realities of the blockade was imposed by the Soviet Union. Many records and diaries were destroyed or suppressed, so that the story is unknown to many people to this day.

Elena, Katia, Olga and the Others was inspired by the diaries of women, who lived through this siege, and explores what everyday existence must have been like, and all the dilemmas raised by the struggle for survival in a community cut off from everything. The aim of this play is to bring the story of the siege to a wider audience.

I need funds for paying the cast, the technician, costumes, venue and printing. I will be grateful for any help, and I will send you information about the background to the play, as well as updates on its progress, and the final production.

This will be a world premiere and will first be produced at The Kings Arms Salford, 15th-18th November 2017 at 7:30pm.

My name is Valérie, I’ve studied theatre and Russian in France and Russia, i created a company dedicated to Russian authors in Paris: The Company of the Migratory Words. I’ve been living in England for 5 years, and directed and staged two Chekhov’s plays. Elena, Katia, Olga and the Others in my third staging in England.

    ***

It sounds a fine project, and if Geoff is involved, it must be. I would love to see it but the logistics and timing are tricky for me. Good luck!
